Overcoming Mental Health Stigma

At RAFT Counseling in Parker, CO, we get asked all of the time if this therapy stuff really works. We would like to honor some incredible individuals who have faced some hard and scary feelings and challenges, faced mental health stigma head on, and emerged from it even stronger.

Meet Emily: Emily's story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. She battled anxiety silently for years, afraid of what others might think if she dared to share her struggles. But the weight of her worries grew heavier, and the darkness felt unbearable.

Then, one day, Emily decided that enough was enough. With a trembling hand and sick feeling in her stomach, she took the first step towards healing and reached out to RAFT Counseling. The warmth and understanding she found there were like a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds. With the guidance of her therapist, Emily learned to manage her anxiety, one step at a time. She discovered that seeking help wasn't a sign of weakness but an act of incredible strength.

Tom's Journey: Tom's battle with depression was like sailing through a never-ending storm. He hesitated to share his feelings, fearing that it might impact his job and relationships. But the toll on his mental health became undeniable, and he reached a breaking point.

Tom's decision to seek help was a turning point in his life. He started therapy at RAFT Counseling, where he found a supportive and compassionate environment. Through counseling, he learned coping strategies and gained a renewed sense of purpose. Tom's story reminds us that healing is possible, even when the seas seem at their darkest.

Grace's Triumph: Grace faced a different kind of stigma, one rooted in cultural misunderstandings about mental health. As a young adult from a tight-knit community, she felt the pressure to conform to certain expectations. But her inner struggles couldn't be hidden forever.

With courage and determination, Grace reached out to RAFT Counseling. The therapists not only provided her with tools to manage her anxiety but also helped her bridge the gap between her cultural identity and her mental health needs. Her story teaches us that seeking help is an act of self-love and cultural resilience.
These stories remind us that no matter how deep the darkness, there's always a path to the light. Seeking help and breaking free from the chains of stigma is a journey worth embarking on. At RAFT Counseling, we're here to guide you on that journey, just as we did for Emily, Tom, and Grace.
